Free Therapy for as Long as Needed
Therapy is an important part of the trauma healing process and is offered to victims throughout all stages of their healing journey. Once a client qualifies for services at the CAC, we remain steadfast in our support. At the Children’s Advocacy Center, we provide professional therapy to three groups:
Children and teens
We support children who have experienced sexual or physical abuse or who are showing signs of trauma.
Our therapists tailor each session to the child’s age and needs, so therapy feels safe and comfortable. Our therapists focus on building trusting relationships with clients during session. Therapists cover a broad array of topics with clients while utilizing trauma informed practice to ensure clients leave with education, tools and supports in place to heal.
Every session is designed to support healing, restore hope and help children move forward with confidence. Pawnee, our Canine Advocate, may also be available during therapy sessions to offer support.
Therapists are available to help children prepare for court hearings related to their abuse. The CAC features a mock courtroom where our therapists can guide children in practicing their testimony, develop skills to remain calm and present during the hearing, as well as process the emotional impact of the legal system. Therapists can attend hearings in person with families to help navigate the legal system and any related emotional impact.
Parents and Caregivers
Caregivers play a vital role in a child’s healing. We provide support to help parents and caregivers understand trauma, trauma-related behaviors, and skills to aid in navigating associated changes.
Caregiver therapy offers a space to ask questions, process emotions, and learn practical ways to help children feel safe and supported at home. Our therapists walk alongside caregivers, helping families rebuild stability, trust, and hope together.
Therapists provide support to caregivers while navigating the legal proceedings associated with child abuse. Therapists can offer education on what to expect, guidance on how to best support their child, and assistance in preparing for their own participation in the process if needed.
To ensure that childcare is never a barrier to seeking mental health support, the CAC offers on-site child care during therapy sessions. This allows caregivers to focus on their healing while their children are cared for in a safe, child-friendly space.
Adult survivors of abuse
The CAC offers ongoing trauma focused therapy to adult survivors of abuse. Adults who have experienced childhood sexual abuse or adults who have been adult victims of sexual abuse are able to access free therapy. The CAC recognizes that childhood abuse can carry lifelong implications and that healing is not a linear process. Trauma-focused therapy is available to help adults process and work through these experiences.
Therapists provide support to adults who are currently navigating sexual abuse court proceedings. Education, coping skills, and preparation for court is vital to decreasing the traumatic impact of these events. Therapists can attend hearings as requested by clients for support.
